Early voting runs through November 1 at the Walker County Storm Shelter for the November 5 General Election.

Early voting for the November 5 General Election is in full swing in Walker County, with 2,129 voters participating on the first day, Monday, October 21, 2024. Voters can continue casting their ballots at the Walker County Storm Shelter at 455 SH 75 North through Friday, November 1. Early voting allows residents to vote ahead of Election Day and avoid the longer lines expected on November 5.

Early Voting Information

The Walker County Storm Shelter is open for early voting during the following hours:

  • Monday-Friday, October 21-25: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 26: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday, October 27: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Monday-Friday, October 28-November 1: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Voter Preparation

Walker County officials encourage voters to review a sample ballot before arriving at the polls. Sample ballots are available on the Walker County Elections Department website. For this election, sample ballots must be printed on yellow paper. The ballot will vary based on your voting precinct.

Voting by Mail

If you qualify for mail-in voting, applications must be submitted by Friday, October 25, no later than 5:00 p.m. To qualify for voting by mail, voters must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 65 years of age or older
  • Have a disability
  • Expecting to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day
  • Confined in jail
  • Will be outside the county during early voting and Election Day

If a voter is 65 years of age or older on Election Day, has a disability, is expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day, is confined in jail, OR will be outside the county during early voting hours and on Election Day, the voter can apply to vote by mail. Simply submit a completed and signed Application for a Ballot by Mail to the address above.
