Participants to Compete for $2000 in Gold Coins at New Sky Blue Venue

Huntsville, TX — The 4th Annual Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Poker Tournament is set to take place on Friday, August 9th, at the newly selected Sky Blue Venue, located at 2514 Sam Houston Ave, across from the Jolly Fox. The tournament will start at 5:30 PM, with registration opening at 4:00 PM.

This year’s event promises a thrilling competition with a range of enticing prizes. First prize will be $2000 in gold coins, sponsored by The Cafe Texan. The second prize, provided by Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, is $1000 in silver coins. McWilliams Heating and Cooling is sponsoring the third prize, a big-screen TV.

In addition to the main prizes, there are more than $2000 worth of additional raffle prizes up for grabs. Local businesses such as Walker County Hardware and Stevenson Beer Distributing Co. have generously donated items, including handcrafted rocking horses from the prison museum and various gift cards.

Bryan Matthys, a representative of the Kiwanis Club, expressed excitement about the new venue and the growing interest in the tournament. “We’ve seen steady growth each year,” said Matthys. “Our first year, we had about 67 participants, and last year, we had 87. This year, we hope to have a full house with 100 participants.”

Matthys highlighted the community aspect of the event, noting that all proceeds will go towards scholarships for students in Huntsville and New Waverly, as well as support for local Boy Scouts and other nonprofit organizations. “It’s all about giving back to the community,” Matthys added. “We want everyone to have fun while contributing to a good cause.”

Participants can enjoy free beer, hot dogs, chips, and Little Debbie snacks throughout the evening. For those knocked out early, there’s a special “dead man walking” prize—a case of Hard Luck beer from Lucky 19.

The tournament is limited to 100 participants, and early registration is encouraged. “We have about 40 pre-registered players so far,” Matthys mentioned. Interested individuals can contact Johnny Mack Armstrong at 936.714.4427 for early registration.
