Cabins and More of Texas owner Adriane Hunter offers Huntsville widows a supportive holiday event inspired by her journey of loss.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Adriane Hunter, owner of Cabins and More of Texas, is organizing the third annual “Evening of Hope Widows Christmas Dinner,” an event dedicated to providing local widows with a supportive holiday gathering. Inspired by her own journey after the loss of her husband, Norm, in October 2021, Hunter felt called to create a space where women can come together, share their experiences, and embrace the season without having to mask their grief.

“I woke up one morning, and God impressed upon my heart that I needed to host a Christmas dinner for widows,” Hunter shared. The first Evening of Hope Widows Christmas Dinner took place in 2022 with 17 women attending. The event nearly doubled in size last year, reaching 32 attendees, and this year Hunter anticipates a turnout of up to 50.

Hunter noted that while many widows spend the holidays with family, they can feel pressure to contain their emotions. “I’ve heard from women who are told they can’t cry because it might ruin Christmas for everyone else,” she explained. “I wanted to create a safe environment where they can just be themselves.”

The event includes a catered meal, gifts for each guest, and festive decorations, all made possible through local sponsors. “Our presenting sponsor, Postcards Magazine, has supported us for three years. We couldn’t do this without them,” Hunter said. She is still welcoming additional sponsors to contribute, particularly with items such as gift cards, personal care products, or small gifts to be presented to attendees. Individuals or businesses can also sponsor decorations or a portion of the catered meal, helping to make the evening memorable for each guest.

For those interested in attending, Hunter has created a private Facebook group, “Widows of Walker County, Texas and Surrounding Areas,” where local widows can find support and stay informed about events. She encourages women to RSVP by December 5 to secure a place at the dinner.

Hunter emphasized the importance of community and shared understanding in the healing process. “The more we share our story, the more we heal,” she said. “This evening reminds them that they’re not alone in their grief.”
