HUNTSVILLE, TX – As Sam Houston State University (SHSU) transitions into Conference USA, Bearkat Alley, the university’s official tailgate area during football season, is undergoing some significant changes. The new policies and procedures, as well as the relocation of Bearkat Alley, aim to enhance the tailgating experience for all Bearkat fans.

Traditionally, Bearkat Alley has been a vibrant hub for various organizations and departments hosting tailgate events during home games, and selected away games, near Bowers Stadium. The festivities at Bearkat Alley have always involved an assortment of free foods and multiple giveaways, including t-shirts and spirit towels, fostering a strong sense of Sam Houston pride.

This year, Bearkat Alley is moving to a new location – Lot 12, also known as the Coliseum Lot, situated on Bobby K. Marks Dr. & Bowers Boulevard. The relocation of Bearkat Alley will ensure better access and convenience for tailgaters, while still offering an atmosphere that is buzzing with Bearkat spirit.

Bearkat Alley entrance is FREE to all Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni, Friends & Fans! Fans interested in tailgating can submit their Bearkat Alley forms and any queries to Breanna Provost at bnp010@shsu.edu.

Tailgating dates for the 2023 season have been announced, including matchups against Jacksonville State, Florida International, UTEP, Kennesaw State, and Middle Tennessee. Specific tailgating and kickoff times are to be confirmed.

While the move of Bearkat Alley promises a new chapter in SHSU tailgating, there are several key policies that participants should be aware of. For instance, all tailgate participants must show their football game ticket upon entry into Bearkat Alley. Tailgating areas will open for set-up at 8:00 AM on home game day and can stay set up throughout the entire football game.

Bearkat Alley tailgating participants are reminded that all tailgate areas must be dismantled and cleaned by 5:00 AM the following day. There is limited power in the new lot, so each group will need to provide their own equipment, such as generators, tables, chairs, and tents.

Sam Houston State University emphasizes responsible and respectful behavior during tailgating. Alcohol consumption will be monitored by UPD, and any violations will be handled accordingly. The university reserves the right to revoke the tailgating pass of anyone not complying with these guidelines.

This new chapter for Bearkat Alley promises an exciting tailgating season for all Bearkat fans. Come and join in the community spirit and cheer on the Bearkats in the upcoming football season!
