Despite facing numerous obstacles including two fouled-out starters and an injury to their fourth leading scorer, Lamar Wilkerson, the Sam Houston Bearkats prevailed in a thrilling overtime game against Stephen F. Austin. With a final score of 64-59, the Bearkats completed the regular season sweep, improving their record to 23-6 overall and 13-4 in the Western Athletic Conference play.

The win keeps them in the running for the No. 1 seed in the league’s postseason tournament next week at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

Despite leading 52-49 with only 52 seconds left in regulation, the Bearkats found themselves tied at 54 with Stephen F. Austin. However, clutch shots and free throws by Ron Mitchell Jr., Donte Powers, and Damon Nicholas Jr. in overtime secured the victory.

The Bearkats play their final regular-season game against Abilene Christian on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
