On Sunday, at Don Sanders Stadium, Bearkat baseball dominated Rhode Island with an impressive 25-2 victory, showcasing an incredible performance at the plate and wrapping up the season-opening series.

The Bearkats dismantled Rhode Island, with 20 hits and four home runs, including two by Clayton Chadwick and a grand slam by Lane Brewster. On the other hand, the Rams sent nine pitchers to the mound, but they couldn’t stop Sam Houston’s offense.

In the first inning, Sam Houston scored two runs with a double by Chadwick and an error. The second inning saw the Bearkats add four more runs with RBI singles by Brewster, Easton Loyd, and Tyler Davis. Chadwick hit a two-run homer in the fourth, while Jake Tatom added a two-run single, and Ryan Franden drove in another run with a base hit.

Logan Hewitt, the starting pitcher for Sam Houston, was in excellent form, allowing only two runs in six innings with six strikeouts. In the fifth inning, Walker Janek kicked off a six-run inning with a three-run home run. Tatom and Miles Jefferson contributed with an RBI single and double, respectively. Chadwick hit his third home run of the series in the sixth, followed by a grand slam by Brewster.

Sam Houston will play McNeese on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. This win is a promising start to the season for the Bearkats, who will be looking to build on this performance in their upcoming games.
