Huntsville Celebrates Café Texan History Museum & Library’s Prestigious 2023 Honor
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Last month, at the prestigious Texas Downtown President’s Awards Gala held in Nacogdoches, the Café Texan History Museum & Library was awarded the honor of the Best Rehabilitation/Restoration for 2023 by the Texas Downtown Association.
Owners Vance and Karen Howard have lovingly restored the Café Texan, not only preserving a piece of Huntsville’s history but also providing a vibrant community space as a museum and library. The award represents not only a personal triumph for the Howards but also a significant acknowledgment for the town of Huntsville.
Savanah Davis, Museum Curator at The Café Texan History Museum & Library, expressed her delight at the recognition. “It’s a tribute to everyone who poured their heart and soul into this project,” Davis said. “We wanted to honor the Café’s past while creating a resource for the future. This award feels like a validation of all that hard work.”
The Café Texan has become a cherished landmark in downtown Huntsville over the years, inviting both locals and visitors to delve into the rich tapestry of Texas history while surrounded by a restored environment that echoes the stories of yesteryears.
This prestigious award from the Texas Downtown Association is more than just a plaque or certificate; it’s a spotlight on the importance of historical preservation and the impact it can have on a community. Huntsville has undoubtedly been brought closer together by this accomplishment, celebrating its heritage and the Howard’s vision of bringing the past forward.
