Huntsville’s Josey Scout Lodge Heats Up with Chili Cook-Off
HUNTSVILLE, TX — The Robert A. Josey Lodge is set to host its annual “Chilly at the Lodge” event, a day of community, cuisine, and charity. Scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024, the event will feature a Chili Cook-Off and Vendor Market from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., benefiting the historic Josey Scout Lodge.
Visitors can explore the Vendor Market for unique finds and then dive into the flavors of the Chili Cook-Off from 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tasting kits are available for $5, including six taste tickets, a spoon, napkin, and a People’s Choice ballot. Notably, first responders in uniform will receive a complimentary tasting kit, a gesture of gratitude for their service.
This year’s event continues the tradition of supporting the nearly 90-year-old Josey Scout Lodge, a Texas Historic Landmark and a fixture on the National Register of Historic Places. Funds raised from the cook-off will aid in essential repair and restoration projects, ensuring the lodge remains a vibrant part of the community.
The cook-off was inspired by a trustee’s idea to support the lodge without tapping into crucial endowment funds. Friends of the lodge, Don & Karen Cullum, were among the first to pledge their support, helping to turn this chili-themed fundraiser into a reality.
The event also celebrates its unique culture with “Chilly Charlie,” the polar bear mascot named during the previous year’s festivities, who has since become a symbol of the event’s community spirit and fun.
Preorders for merchandise are available until January 15, offering attendees a chance to own a piece of the Chilly at the Lodge legacy. As always, the event promises a warm atmosphere, despite the chilly name, fostering community spirit and charity through the love of chili.
