New permanent gallery space celebrates community art in Huntsville
Deckled Edge Art Co. (DECA) has found a permanent home at Huntsville Executive Office Suites at 2503 Lake Road Suite C-111, Huntsville, Texas 77340 and will have a soft opening of May 12, 2025 with a formal opening reception Friday May, 30, 2025 from 6–8PM in the lobby of Executive Office Suites and is open to the public. DEAC was founded as a home-based art studio by local emerging artist, Tonya Schorre. Tonya has had a lifelong passion for art which has always been just a hobby and taking a back seat to her obligations as a mother of 8, grandmother of 7 and to a full-time job outside of the home. Recently, with the encouragement and support of her husband, children and immediate family, Tonya took a leap of faith to focus on her art talent and in early 2024 formed Deckled Edge Art Co. DEAC has secured a location at Executive Office Suites which will be utilized as a studio space for Tonya as well as a gallery space for her art and art of other local and regional artists.
The gallery space is being named Colonneh Gallery at Deckled Edge Art Co. as a namesake to the name given to Sam Houston, General and former President of the Republic of Texas, by Cherokee Chief John Jolly when Houston was a young man. Colonneh is translated as “The Raven” which likeness is the symbol of the gallery logo.
DEAC has a vision to expand the accessibility of art to the citizens of Huntsville and Walker County. An opening reception is planned for May 30, 2025 from 6–8PM in the lobby of the Executive Office Suites. Refreshments and beverages will be served along with music, art raffle, gallery viewing and fellowship with those who enjoy art. At 7PM, Tonya will be giving an artist talk about the piece being raffled off. Other local and area artists will be in attendance with some of their work as well.
Tonya is a mixed media artist whose primary medium is watercolor and ink on paper, but has experience in acrylic on canvas, acrylic on wood and ink on paper. She is open to commission pieces as well. Tonya primarily focuses on small pieces depicting nature and whimsical subjects. She also paints bookmarks, greeting cards and any other type of 2D art in her medium. Her art can also be purchased as a print and she has the ability to do matte work and framing of pieces as well.
