Covenant Classical dominates Alpha Omega in a high-scoring TAPPS Division II 6-man football championship clash in Waco.

WACO, Texas — The Alpha Omega Academy Lions fell short in their quest for a state title, losing 80-32 to the Covenant Classical Academy Cavaliers in the TAPPS Division II 6-Man Football state championship game on Thursday morning at Waco ISD Stadium.

The Cavaliers showcased dominance on both sides of the ball, delivering a relentless performance that capitalized on big plays and critical defensive stops. For Alpha Omega, despite moments of brilliance, a series of costly turnovers and missed opportunities spelled the end of their championship hopes.

The Lions opened the game receiving the kickoff, with senior Lukas Collier providing an early spark on a solid return. However, Alpha Omega’s first drive stalled, culminating in a turnover on downs at their 34-yard line. Covenant Classical quickly took advantage, as quarterback Noah Keyes evaded pressure and delivered a pinpoint 33-yard touchdown pass to Luke Evans, giving the Cavaliers an 8-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

Alpha Omega’s next possession ended with a punt, setting up another efficient drive for Covenant Classical. Keyes again connected with his receivers, methodically moving the Cavaliers downfield. A critical fourth-down conversion kept the drive alive before Jonathan Wade found the end zone with an 11-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. By the end of the opening period, Covenant Classical held a commanding 14-0 lead.

Early in the second quarter, the Cavaliers’ defense struck a devastating blow. Malachi Brown intercepted a pass from Alpha Omega’s Case Collum and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown, extending the lead to 22-0. Collier responded for the Lions with a 41-yard rushing touchdown on the next drive, giving Alpha Omega their first points of the game.

Covenant Classical wasted no time answering, as Harrison Jewett electrified the crowd with a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, widening the gap to 30-8. Alpha Omega continued to battle, with Collier breaking loose for another big run, but the Lions were unable to capitalize on key opportunities. A late interception ended another promising drive, and Covenant Classical added another score before halftime, bringing the lead to 38-16.

In the second half, Alpha Omega found some rhythm offensively. Collier and quarterback William Winn led a determined effort, with Winn completing a 43-yard touchdown pass to Colton Sikes in the third quarter. Collier followed up with a 6-yard rushing touchdown to trim the deficit to 46-24. However, every time the Lions gained momentum, the Cavaliers had an answer.

Covenant Classical’s Keyes continued his stellar performance, finding Jewett for a 48-yard touchdown pass and later connecting with Bailey on a 40-yard score early in the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers’ defensive line kept the Lions’ rushing attack in check, while their secondary disrupted Alpha Omega’s passing game.

By the time Jewett hauled in another touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter, Covenant Classical had put the game out of reach. The final score, 80-32, reflected the Cavaliers’ ability to dominate in all phases of the game.

For Alpha Omega, Collier’s efforts stood out as a bright spot. The senior running back accounted for multiple touchdowns and provided key plays throughout the contest. Winn and Sikes also showed flashes of brilliance in the passing game, but the Lions were ultimately unable to match the firepower of Covenant Classical.

The Cavaliers’ victory marked the culmination of a season defined by precision and resilience. Their ability to capitalize on turnovers and execute in critical moments proved the difference in a game that saw them crowned TAPPS Division II 6-Man Football state champions.

Alpha Omega finishes the season with a strong playoff run, their effort and determination a testament to their program’s growth. While the Lions leave Waco without the championship trophy, their journey to the title game reflects their hard work and tenacity throughout the year.

  1. The QB for the Covenant Classical Cavaliers was #9 Freshman Noah Keyes. Williams was the QB until he was injured during the Gordon Game earlier in the year. When he returned coaches believed he would be more impactful as a receiver and defensive player.
