Hornets Soar in Inaugural Match at New Venue, Overpowering Hargrave
Huntsville, TX | January 25, 2024 – In an electrifying debut at their new stadium, the Huntsville Hornet Boys Soccer teams clinched remarkable victories against the Hargrave Falcons from Humble ISD on Thursday. The varsity team secured a shutout with a 2-0 win, while the JV team emerged victorious with a 3-2 scoreline.
After weather-induced postponements, the anticipation for the inaugural match in the new stadium had reached a fever pitch. The Hornets did not disappoint their fans, delivering a performance worthy of the occasion.
The varsity Hornets, now holding a balanced 4-4 record, saw stellar performances from seniors Salvador Landeros and Raul Pina, each contributing a goal. Landeros and Pina’s efforts were pivotal in solidifying the Hornets’ control of the game.
Huntsville’s defense, anchored by senior goalkeepers Michael Gomez and Isauro Zuniga, was impenetrable, contributing significantly to the team’s clean sheet. Zuniga played most of the match, proving his mettle with crucial saves, while Gomez’s short but effective tenure in the goal added to the team’s confidence.
This win sets a positive tone for the Hornets as they prepare to host Lufkin for a crucial 5A Region 2 District 16 match on Tuesday, January 30. Lufkin, coming off a strong 4-1 win over East Chambers (Winnie, TX), poses a significant challenge with their 4-2 record.
Hargrave, despite their loss, showed commendable spirit and resilience. However, they couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, leaving their stats unentered for this game.
The new stadium’s opening night will be remembered not just for the victories but for the vibrant atmosphere and community spirit it fostered. It indeed was a night of pride and joy for the Hornets, marking a promising start in their new home ground.
