Pam Hansen’s Partner Johnie Goodman Dies in Fire; Fundraiser Organized to Support Hansen

HUNTSVILLE, TX — The Huntsville community is rallying to support Pam Hansen after a devastating fire claimed her home and the life of her lifelong partner, Johnie Allen Goodman. The fire occurred on May 2 at their residence on Hidden Creek Drive.

Johnie Goodman, an 84-year-old former legendary horse trainer, succumbed to smoke inhalation. Goodman, a two-time All-American Futurity (G1) winning trainer, had a storied career with victories at Ruidoso Downs and other major tracks. His son confirmed his passing following the tragic event.

Sandra Kusick, Hansen’s cousin, and Kusick’s friend Donna Woodbury have organized a fundraiser to help Pam Hansen during this difficult time. “She lost her home and her partner of 24 years to a devastating fire,” Kusick said. “She is now homeless and living with relatives.”

The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise funds to purchase a small trailer for Hansen and cover essential household items, clothes, and toiletries. Hansen has been commuting an hour each way from her relatives’ home to feed her dogs still at the homestead.

“Pam’s in a dire situation,” Kusick explained. “We’re trying to get her back home as soon as possible. Every bit of financial help will make a huge difference.”

Goodman’s contributions to the world of Quarter Horse racing are well-remembered. Born in Victoria, Texas, he trained iconic horses like Special Effort, Native Gambler, and Higheasterjet. His career highlights include a run of classic wins from 1980 to 1982, making him a celebrated figure in the sport.

Funeral services for Goodman were held on May 21 at Grace Memorial Chapel in Victoria, Texas.

The community is encouraged to support Hansen by donating to the GoFundMe campaign https://gofund.me/76e19870. “We believe in coming together in times of need, and this is one of those times,” Kusick said.
