The Huntsville Lady Hornets softball team not only secured a 5-3 victory over Porter on Monday but also claimed the coveted #1 seed in the 16-5A division. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when Jaelynn Duke hit a game-changing solo home run.
Huntsville first grabbed the lead in the second inning, thanks to Chloe Sanders’s sacrifice fly that scored a run for the Lady Hornets. The team went on to score three runs during that inning, with Hope Grant, Sanders, and Noelle Sandmann each driving in runs.
Duke’s outstanding performance on the pitcher’s mound led Huntsville to victory. The right-handed pitcher pitched seven innings, yielding ten hits and three runs, while striking out nine batters and walking none.
Huntsville had a total of ten hits during the game, with one home run by Duke in the sixth inning. Sandmann, Katie Vonrosenberg, Kali Klawinsky, and Grant contributed multiple hits for the Lady Hornets softball team. The quartet of Grant, Klawinsky, Vonrosenberg, and Sandmann led the team with two hits each. Huntsville’s fielding was impeccable, with no errors committed. Vonrosenberg led the team with ten chances in the field.
With this win, the Lady Hornets softball team has claimed the #1 seed in the 16-5A division. Details about their playoff match against Mt. Pleasant are yet to be announced. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
