HEARTS Museum Hosts Annual Dinner, VFW Announces Raffle Winners in Support of Veterans
HUNTSVILLE, TX – The HEARTS Veterans Museum commemorated Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day with a significant event, hosting its 20th annual potluck dinner and a toy and food drive on Thursday, December 7. Community members gathered, contributing new toys and non-perishable food items to support local families, with David McBroom providing fried fish, hush puppies, and french fries for the event.
In tandem with this commemorative dinner, Jack Durish of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5871 announced the winners of their unique raffles during the evening. The first raffle, an innovative idea by adjutant Larry Harris, involved participants drawing numbered chips and paying an amount corresponding to their number. The total funds were split between the winner, Ruben Araga, who won $2,500, and veteran support initiatives.
Additionally, a hunting trip raffle was also drawn. The grand prize, a three-day, two-night hunting experience on a 6,000-acre ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas, including trophy buck and hog hunting, was awarded to Todd Stevenson. This newer fundraising initiative was part of the VFW’s effort to support local veterans through creative means. The winners of both raffles will be formally awarded their prizes on an upcoming episode of “Good Morning Huntsville” on the Hello Huntsville show.
The event was not just a moment to honor the fallen of Pearl Harbor but also an opportunity for the museum and the VFW to actively engage in supporting the local community. The VFW’s successful raffles, raising over $10,000, and the museum’s dedication to veterans and military history education, exemplify the community’s ongoing commitment to remembrance and support.
The HEARTS Veterans Museum continues to serve as a central hub for veterans and military milestones, fostering community engagement and education on military history. The museum, located at 463 Hwy 75 in Huntsville, hosts events year-round, including a monthly free breakfast for veterans.
