Owner Maria Ramirez relocates tamale operation to University Avenue

HUNTSVILLE, TX – A popular local food truck has officially made its move downtown. Tamal on the Square, known for its handmade tamales and Mexican-inspired street food, opened its doors on July 12 at 1105 University Avenue, next to Perfect Nails.

Owner Maria Ramirez confirmed that the downtown site will be their only location going forward. With a cozy patio shaded by crepe myrtles and accented with bright red umbrellas, the new space brings fresh life to a beloved Huntsville corner—formerly home to Granny Mary's Cajun Asian Cuisine, owned by the late Randy Thompson.

The menu boasts a wide selection of savory tamales—including salsa roja pork, salsa verde chicken, Oaxaca cheese & roasted jalapeño, banana leaf Oaxaqueño, and the spicy Tejano tamales—along with burritos, street tacos, and all-day breakfast options. Aguas frescas and sweet tamales round out the offerings.

Combo meals and house-made tamale toppings offer guests the ability to customize their meals. The space also includes a walk-up ordering window and shaded outdoor seating, creating a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere in the heart of Huntsville.
