Local family brings back beloved neighborhood bar with fresh cocktails and a welcoming atmosphere.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Trace’s Place, a new tavern and wine bar, officially opened its doors to the public the first weekend of March. Located at 1320 Windsor St., the establishment is co-owned by Amanda Johnston, her son Trace Willis, and her husband Doug Johnston.

“My son was managing the H Bistro that was there before,” Amanda Johnston said. “When the previous owners decided to close the location, our regulars urged us to keep it going. So, we scrounged up as much cash as we could and reopened it under our ownership.”

The name Trace’s Place honors Trace Willis, who shares ownership along with his mother and father. The establishment features a cozy, family-oriented atmosphere that Johnston describes as reminiscent of the TV show “Cheers.” “We hear all the time how our place feels like a neighborhood family bar,” Johnston noted.

Trace’s Place focuses on craft cocktails made with fresh, muddled fruit rather than flavored liquors, a detail that has been well received by patrons. “It’s gone better than we hoped,” Johnston said. “We’ve already seen strangers become regulars in just two months.”

In addition to cocktails, Trace’s Place offers a selection of beer and wine, though the focus has shifted from wine to cocktails based on customer preferences. The food menu includes charcuterie boards, hummus, and bar food like air-fried items.

Trace’s Place is open Wednesday through Friday from 4 p.m. until midnight or later, and on Saturdays from 3 p.m. until midnight or later, depending on customer presence.
