Obituary

In Loving Memory of Larry G. Gilcrease Larry G. Gilcrease, age 76, of Conroe, Texas, passed away on September 18, 2026. Born on February 1, 1950, Larry was the beloved son of Marvin Gilcrease and Roseva Thomas Gilcrease, and was also blessed with the love and support of his stepmother, Mae Gilcrease. Larry graduated from Conroe High School in 1968 and returned to Conroe for his later years of life. He earned a Bachelor of Education from the University of Houston in 1972 and returned to his alma mater for his Master of Education. Larry possessed a unique command of the English language and was also fluent in Spanish. He dedicated 24 years of his career to shaping young minds as a math teacher at Stephen F. Austin High School in Houston. He later enjoyed a second career as a realtor with Coldwell Banker. Driven by a deep love for Christ, Larry also earned a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary, and in his later years, he was a faithful member of Grace Covenant Baptist Church in Willis. Larry was a man of precise habits and a sly, offbeat wit. Affectionately referred to by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Amish,” Larry was an absolute hoot to be around—whether riding in his Renault as he used hand signals while “squaring” turns, or engaging in boisterous, late-night games of Monopoly. Larry was also a published author, penning the book Marmalade for Breakfast under the pen name Prentiss Psalter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Roseva; his stepmother, Mae; his cherished twin sister, Linda Blest; his brother-in-law, Phillip Blest; and his caregiver, Kimberly Hill. Larry is survived by his brother, Ronnie Gilcrease (wife Sandra), and his lifelong best friend, Ronnie Rod. Though a lifelong bachelor with no children of his own, Larry was a devoted and beloved uncle.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Kelly Bradshaw (husband Adam) and their son, Charles Nathan Blest (wife Amy) and former wife Shelly Blest, along with their children Alden Blest (wife Karina), Keighla Keirn (husband Trevor), and Kirsten Blest Joel Blest and his children, Phillip Yonekawa-Blest and Stella Yonekawa-Blest Angela Taylor (husband David) and their children, Glory, Given, and Gates Jeremy Blest (wife Jill) and their children, Matthew and Jonathan Blest Larry's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his compassionate caregivers—Jackie Wayne, Tamika Stamers, and Hailey Little—as well as the memory of the late Kimberly Hill, for their loving care and devotion.
