Nellie Jean Shepard Chandler of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 and was welcomed into heaven by many loved ones. Born on August 24, 1929, in Jewett, Texas, to Veda Mae and Herman Dee Shepard, Nellie lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and dedication that touched the hearts of many. Nellie's life was marked by her commitment to family, friends, and faith. She married the love of her life, Charles Weldon Chandler, on February 21, 1947.

Together, they shared a remarkable 61-year journey, filled with love and companionship until Charles's passing. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their deep bond and love for each other. Nellie spent the majority of her life dedicated to taking care of her family and her home, a job that she took great pride in. She also held a career at Sears in the catalog department at the San Jacinto Mall for two decades.

During her time there, Nellie formed lasting friendships and was admired for her dedication and hard work. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Baytown, Nellie lived a life of service to others. She taught Sunday school and was actively involved in various church activities, embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity. Her faith in Jesus was a cornerstone of her life, and she inspired those around her with her unwavering devotion.

Nellie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Veda Mae and Herman Dee Shepard, her brothers Grady Shepard and James Shepard, and her devoted husband, Weldon. Nellie is survived by her loving daughter, Beverly Mitchell, and her husband, Albert, of Huntsville, Texas. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Christopher Mitchell of Pasadena, Texas, and Debra Vandergriff and her husband, Bryon, of Tomball, Texas.

Her four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Charles, Madison, and Chandler, will carry forward her memory and her kindness. Nellie Jean Shepard Chandler will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her heartfelt laughter, her faith in Jesus as her Savior, and her unwavering dedication to those she loved. Her presence brought joy and warmth to everyone she encountered, and her legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Nellie will be laid to rest on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 11am at New Hope Cemetery in Jewitt, Texas. Memorial condolences may be made to the family at www.shmfh.com.
