Patrick Frank Pfertner

Obituary

Patrick Frank Pfertner passed from this life and went to his Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 5, 2026. He was born on September 7, 1939, in Ammannsville, Texas, to Robert and Annie Mazoch Pfertner. Patrick entered the world as the Great Depression was ending and World War II was beginning. He was raised in a small home on a sharecropper’s farm without running water, electricity, or indoor plumbing. He attended one- and two-room country schools during his first eight years of education.

His early life was shaped by hard work which included picking cotton, gathering feed, tending animals, and completing daily farm chores. He often reflected fondly on this upbringing and cherished the time spent with his family in the country. Patrick is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his son, Andrew Pfertner; his daughter, Anne Pfertner; his stepdaughters, Wendy McBride (Timothy) and Debra Hanson; and his beloved dog, Itty Bitty.

He graduated from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting in 1961 and went on to earn his CPA certification. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Patrick dedicated nearly forty years of his career to Schlumberger Oilfield Services, where he held management and regulatory roles in various locations throughout the Houston area.

A devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas, Patrick was active in the Men’s Club and was also a member of the Texas Czech Heritage Society in LaGrange, Texas. He took great pride in his Czech-German heritage and was grateful for the opportunity to visit his ancestral homelands on several trips to Europe. Patrick enjoyed cruising and traveling, following sports—especially the Astros and Aggies—and researching genealogy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lorraine Wagner (William Wagner); and his beloved dachshunds, Abigail and Belle. In addition to his immediate family, Patrick is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Plantersville, Texas, on May 13, 2026. Visitation and a rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Ammannsville Cemetery. Please see details below. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Texas Czech Heritage Society in LaGrange, Texas, the SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
