Obituary
Richard Allen Elliott November 15, 1954 – September 13, 2026 Richard Allen Elliott, age 71, of Huntsville, TX, passed away on September 13, 2026, at his home following heart surgery. He died the way he always wanted to: quickly, peacefully, and at home. Born on November 15, 1954, in Galveston, TX, to George and Mary Elliott. George was a career Marine, so the family lived in California, Hawaii, Houston, and Galveston.
Richard attended nine schools in twelve years. Richard graduated from Hitchcock High School, class of 1973. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Colorado. After his honorable discharge, he worked aboard the Ida Green, a UTMB research ship out of Galveston, studying gravitational anomalies in the Bermuda Triangle. His career in IT began in 1977 at First City Bank, followed by Prudential (where he met Janice), Interfirst Bank, ADP, and Transco, which later became Williams.
He retired after 25 years with Williams as a Senior Project Manager, heavily involved with the SCADA system that runs the natural gas pipelines. His love for fishing, hunting, woodworking, and gardening was surpassed only by his love for his family. He was a Master Gardener and a lifelong member of the CCA and DU, and he handmade duck calls. He was also heavily involved for many years with the Turning Point Drum Tournament for physically challenged anglers, raising thousands of dollars each year to sponsor the event, as well as donating his time and boat to take fishermen on a very special day on the water.
After retiring and leaving Houston, he moved to Demi-John on Bastrop Bayou, where he hosted many fishermen and their families at his property. He became involved with Harvest for the Hungry and served as General Manager for Brazoria County FWSD #2. Richard's incredible project management skills were the key to the freshwater supply project's success. Finally, he moved to Huntsville, where he built a home with Janice on the water with a fishing pier.
Preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Elliott; sister, Deborah Kathryn; brother, Edwin Louis Elliott; and brother, Mark Thomas Elliott. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Janice Elliott; son Ryan Elliott (wife Judi); two precious granddaughters, Ella Elliott (United States Naval Academy) and Libby Elliott; grandsons Colton Griffith (wife Elizabeth) and Jackson Griffith (wife Anna, daughter Henley); along with Tim Mayeux (wife Kelli, daughter Savanna); and a sweet white lab named Parker.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held September 26, 2026, at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 Normal Park Dr., Huntsville, TX 77340, from 12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Casual dress, please. He would love it if you wore fishing shirts, camo, or Hawaiian shirts.
