Roy Barkley

Obituary
Roy Junior Barkley, 65, of New Waverly, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, with his family by his side. Born on August 27, 1960, in West Monroe, Louisiana, Roy was the son of Charles and Cecile Barkley. After graduating from high school, he began his career in the logging industry, working alongside his father before establishing his own logging company, which he successfully operated for 19 years.
Later in life, Roy transitioned to owning and operating his own dump truck business for seven years. In 1983, Roy met and married the love of his life, Scarlett, in New Waverly, Texas. Together they shared 43 wonderful years of marriage, building a life filled with love and raising their son. Roy was known for his love of hunting and fishing, but above all, for his devotion to his family and friends.
He had a kind heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and truly enjoyed making others smile and laugh. Roy also shared a special bond with Lola, a stray dog who wandered into his life on a stormy night and quickly became inseparable. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Cecile Barkley; his sister, Carolyn Green; and his nephew, J.J. Green. Roy is survived by his beloved wife, Scarlett Barkley; his son, Trenton Barkley; his brothers, Wade Barkley and wife, Tina, and Jack Barkley and wife, Janette; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W, Willis, Texas 77318.
