Obituary
William "Bill" Boyle, 79, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2026, in Huntsville, Texas. Born on April 1, 1946, in Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, Scotland, Bill’s life was a remarkable journey across continents, careers, and callings — each chapter marked by resilience, curiosity, and a deepening faith. Bill was the only child of Ellen Cole Boyle and Joseph Boyle. Though he often lamented being an only child, he was born into a large extended family in Scotland.
His parents emigrated to Canada and then settled in Detroit a few years later. There, Bill forged bonds with neighbors, schoolmates from Catholic school, and the families of friends —creating his own chosen family that enriched his life. His professional life was as varied as it was impactful. Beginning as an orderly in the medical field, Bill went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army as a medic.
He achieved the rank of E5 before his honorable discharge. His service included time at White Sands Missile Range and the local hospital — a period that shaped his dedication to healing and service. After his military career, Bill transitioned into medical research in Michigan. His work contributed to numerous peer-reviewed papers and advanced understanding in his field. Later relocating to New Mexico, he ran race horse toxicology, then worked as a med/ lab technician.
Ever the innovator, he also launched his own cheesecake business, making up to 60 cheesecakes a day with full distribution operations. This entrepreneurial endeavor showcased his creativity and determination. In 1986, Bill married Jeanne Florence Weaver in New Mexico. Their union was marked by shared faith and mutual devotion. Together they raised Jeannie’s daughter Kelley, and their son Ian Joseph Boyle.
Bill took great joy welcoming granddaughters Caroline Brady (1995) and Madison Steiger (1996) through Kelley, then through Ian and Melissa Marie Roberts [Boyle], Evangeline (Evie) (2024). He was looking forward to the arrival of precious Emmaline (Emmie) in 2026. From his first marriage came Julia Ann Boyle [Kalamperovic] and Erin Marya Boyle [Ream]. Julia has two children: Dylan and Genevieve. A man of many talents and interests, Bill discovered a passion for painting late in life.
Bitten by the artist’s bug in 2024, he began showcasing his early works at the Wynne Home Gallery alongside fellow artists known as the “Elkins Artisans.” By 2025, he had found his creative stride — painting prolifically with acrylics in a flurry of inspired expression. Bill’s spiritual journey was central to his identity. Raised a devout Catholic half his life, he experienced a profound transformation after an encounter with Christ at the Pecos Benedictine Monastery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
This moment marked a turning point that redefined the second half of his life. Saved by an encounter with Christ, Bill grew steadily into the image of Christ over the years — never shying away from acknowledging his human imperfections but always striving toward grace. He ministered in NM jails before diving into the similar work in China and Vietnam with Jeannie. His daily spiritual practice reflected this commitment: each morning began with verbal greetings to the Lord shared with Jeannie before rising from bed.
Over coffee, they prayed together for family, friends, world events, and more — an act of devotion that grounded their lives. He especially valued praying aloud with Jeannie and encouraged others to adopt this loving habit for and with their own spouses. A quiet man and deep thinker, Bill found joy in listening to others and observing life unfold around him. Whether immersed in American culture or engaging with communities abroad through friendships formed across the globe, he fully embraced the Body of Christ wherever God placed him where he found Spiritual Brothers and Sister.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Ellen Cole Boyle (1986) and Joseph Boyle (1982), along with all eight of Joseph’s siblings — making him the last of the Scotland Boyles. He also lost beloved Kelley (2019). A memorial service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at a later date in the Elkins Lake area after baby Emmie is safely delivered. Either In honoring William "Bill" Boyle’s memory, we remember a man who lived many lives within one lifetime — a mission minded healer, soldier, researcher, entrepreneur, artist, volunteer, husband, father — and above all else, a faithful servant of Christ whose quiet strength left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Thanks to University Heights Baptist Church and Huntsville friends for the many demonstrations of love for Bill during his brief but aggressive illness. May his memory bring comfort to all who loved him. No flowers, please. Donate instead to Isaiah 117 House Montgomery Walker Counties.
