On Sunday, Sam Houston baseball suffered a 2-1 defeat to Utah Valley in the final game of their series at Don Sanders Stadium. This loss resulted in the Bearkats dropping their first Western Athletic Conference series of the season, after a 15-9 defeat on Saturday. However, they did manage to win the first game of the series on Friday, with a 3-1 scoreline.
Sam Houston took an early lead in the first inning, with Justin Wishkoski hitting a single and advancing to third on a throwing error. Walker Janek drove him home with a groundout up the middle. Utah Valley responded in the third inning, capitalizing on a failed pickoff attempt at first base which resulted in a two-base throwing error. They then scored a run with a groundout to first base, tying the game.
In the eighth inning, Sam Houston gifted Utah Valley another run. After a leadoff double, relief pitcher Braden Davis walked three consecutive batters, allowing the game-winning run to score.
The Sam Houston baseball team will now travel to College Station to take on Texas A&M at Blue Bell Park on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
