HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston has hired a longtime professional with decades of experience across professional, collegiate and high school athletics to guide Bearkat Athletics’ marketing and fan engagement efforts.
Adam Bright will serve as the Associate Director of Fan Engagement, a new position within the university’s Integrated Marketing Communications Division. He comes to Sam Houston after spending the past several years as the director of athletics at Buena Vista (Colorado) High School.
“We are excited to have Adam join our team. He has a proven record of success in building successful marketing and fan engagement programs across sports of all levels,” said Russell Martinez, Assistant Vice President for Marketing and Branding.
The new position will plan, organize, and direct the day-to-day operations of athletics marketing and fan engagement. Bright, along with the assistance of marketing manager Elliott Hansing, will develop and implement marketing and fan engagement strategies to enhance the fan experience at Bearkat Athletics events.
While at Buena Vista, Bright had the task of reintroducing students to on-campus life and athletic events after the pandemic school closures to accommodate growing health concerns. He oversaw facility upgrades including the remodeling of the varsity gymnasium.
Bright implemented fan engagement strategies to increase sales, sponsorships, social media presence, and media coverage of all athletics and activities.
“We are excited to come back home to our native Texas,” Bright said. “I truly believe Sam Houston State University is poised for greatness in the coming years as we build upon the great traditions of success that have been established through the storied history of Bearkat athletics. Working alongside our fans, student-athletes, coaches, and administration, we will build championship experiences for our fans, friends, and family as they support our championship level programs.
Before Buena Vista, Bright worked as an assistant commissioner with the Colorado High School Activities Association where he helped oversee football, wrestling, girls’ lacrosse, softball, baseball, playoff finance and coaches’ education. He also served as athletic director at Durango (Colorado) High School, AD/head football coach at Middle Park High School in Granby, Colorado, and held the same positions at Winters (Texas) High School.
Bright has also held positions at other school districts, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree, and minor league baseball teams. He received his master’s in athletic administration at Concordia University Irvine and is working on his PhD in leadership and sports management at Concordia Chicago.
“I’m excited to meet all the great and passionate Bearkat fans and work together to build Sam Houston into the top destination in Conference USA and beyond,” Bright added. “Eat ’em up Kats!”
