At the Karbach Classic on Saturday at Dell Diamond, Sam Houston secured an 8-3 victory over Kansas State by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth inning. The Bearkats now hold a 2-0 record in the tournament, having defeated Iowa 6-0 in the opening game on Friday. Sam Houston’s final match is against No.1 ranked LSU on Sunday at 4 p.m.
Sam Houston took a 4-0 lead by scoring a run in each of the first four innings. Although the Wildcats managed to score a run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth, the game was still within reach.
However, Sam Houston sealed the win by ending a four-inning scoring drought in the ninth inning. Justin Wishkoski started off the inning with a double down the left field line, followed by Carlos Contreras reaching base on an error. Walker Janek then hit a two-run double, and Easton Loyd finished off the inning with a two-run homer over the right field wall.
Starting pitcher Steven Beard had a solid performance, allowing only one run on four hits and striking out six in seven innings. Janek drove in the first run of the game with a groundout in the first inning, while Myles Jefferson contributed an RBI single and double, and Loyd drove in a run with a hit in the fourth inning.
