Sam Houston reliever Logan Hewitt was named Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after his impressive performance in game three of a series-clinching victory over No. 25 Grand Canyon. The league announced this on Monday.
Hewitt had a stellar week, allowing only two earned runs across 8 1/3 innings of relief in two games. He played a crucial role in a 4-2 series-clinching victory over Grand Canyon by pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings after they tied the game at 2 in the fifth inning before he came on in relief. This allowed Sam Houston to take the lead and ultimately win the game.
In addition to his game-three heroics, Hewitt had an impressive showing in a 7-6 loss to Baylor on Tuesday, allowing only one earned run in 4 innings of relief. He finished the week with a record of 2-1 and only allowed three hits while striking out seven batters in his two appearances.
Hewitt’s performance earned him Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, recognizing his role in Sam Houston’s successful week on the diamond.
