HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston’s head softball coach, Garrett Valis, has revealed the recruitment of Shayna Espy as part of his staff for the 2023-24 season. Espy is set to take on the role of graduate assistant coach, focusing her expertise on outfielders and hitters.
Espy brings with her a decorated collegiate playing background from Kansas and Butler Community College, where she achieved NJCAA first-team All-American status.
While playing her senior season at Kansas, Espy made a name for herself by earning Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete recognition. As the team’s consistent center fielder, she started every one of the 52 games. Espy showcased her hitting prowess, recording a .270 batting average, 14 RBIs, and nine doubles. Her 40 hits were the second-most on the team.
Before her college tenure, Espy was a three-time All-Sunflower League first-team selection during her high school years at Olathe Northwest High in Olathe, Kansas.
