Sam Houston Bearkats baseball won both games of a doubleheader against Abilene Christian Wildcats on Saturday at Don Sanders Stadium. In game one, the Bearkats won 5-1, with Joe Redfield hitting a solo home run in the first inning, and Coltin Atkinson allowing only two hits in six innings. Sam Houston scored four runs in the second inning, thanks to Justin Wishkoski and Easton Loyd’s back-to-back singles, Myles Jefferson’s RBI single, and Redfield’s two-run single. Carlos Contreras walked to score the final run.

In game two, Sam Houston won 4-3 with Jake Tatom hitting a two-run double in the ninth inning. The Bearkats have won five straight league series this season, and the victory extends their streak. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth, Carlos Contreras hit a solo home run to pull the Kats within one. Wishkoski hit a double, and Loyd hit a single that hit off the umpire, allowing Wishkoski to advance to third. Myles Jefferson drew a walk to load the bases, and Tatom hit a ball to right-center field that fell in front of a diving defender and rolled to the wall, sealing the victory for Sam Houston. The Bearkats scored their other run in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Tyler Davis that tied the game at one. All three of the Wildcats’ runs came from solo home runs.

Sam Houston will go for the series sweep on Sunday at 1 p.m.
