The Emporium Now Open in Huntsville, Offers Unique Marketplace Experience

New Ventures Under One Roof

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Huntsville welcomes a unique new marketplace experience with the opening of The Emporium, located at 1225 11th St, Huntsville, TX 77340. Dr. Caroline Crimm, a retired professor from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and operator of Historic Tours of Texas since 2016, now hosts this diverse marketplace at the same location.

A Marketplace for Local Vendors

True to its name, The Emporium offers a vibrant and varied shopping experience. The term "emporium," from early Greek for merchants and markets, perfectly captures the spirit of the marketplace, which offers handcrafted goods, plants, and an inviting community atmosphere.

Educators Turned Entrepreneurs: The Freys

Among the vendors are Glenn and Sharon Frey, who run Frey's Woodsong Farm within The Emporium. Glenn Frey brings a rich background in education, having spent more than 30 years teaching history in Humble and Willis, followed by 11 years in online education. His wife, Sharon, previously taught in the agriculture department at SHSU, further highlighting their strong educational roots.

Plants Galore at Frey's Woodsong Farm

Frey's Woodsong Farm specializes in carefully cultivated indoor and patio plants, offering favorites like snake plants, peace lilies, and succulents. Sharon Frey emphasizes the care behind each plant, proudly noting, "99% of these we have started ourselves and grown."

Opportunities for Local Vendors

The Emporium actively encourages local vendors to join their community. Vendors have the flexibility of selling products two days per week in a shared-space arrangement. Dr. Crimm describes this model as collaborative: "Everybody alternates, and everybody sells each other's stuff."

Convenient Shopping Hours

Operating hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to stop by at their convenience. Glenn Frey adds a welcoming touch, stating, "If someone's not there, just pop back in if the light's on."

Dedicated to Huntsville's Community Spirit

The Freys expressed their appreciation for Huntsville’s "small hometown feel," particularly highlighting the charm of the downtown area. Their enthusiasm underscores The Emporium's commitment to fostering community spirit and local pride.
