“Unite for Literacy”: Montessori School Event Promises Fun & Fundraising for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Initiative

HUNTSVILLE, TX— Tomorrow’s Promise Montessori Schools will host the “Lasso Your Imagination” event on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Walker County Fair Grounds, aiming to round up community support for literacy initiatives. The event proceeds will benefit Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a program that provides free books to children under the age of five in Walker County.

From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, attendees can enjoy an evening full of activities, including BBQ, adult drinks, and dinner entertainment by the Huntsville Promenader’s Square Dance Club. The event also features door prizes, silent and live auctions, and a dessert auction. Those feeling adventurous can even try their hand at lassoing a steer head.

“This event encapsulates the spirit of community and the importance of literacy. We’re incredibly passionate about making a difference in the lives of children in Walker County,” said Kaye Boehning, owner of Tomorrow’s Promise Montessori Schools.

The event is organized by Tomorrow’s Promise Educational Foundation, in conjunction with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, and it is backed by generous sponsors including The Cafe Texan, The Color Bar, Elliott Jewelers, Dr. Means, Brisket Syndicate, Prison City Boudain, Jump Around Moonwalks, Wischnewsky, Weisner, American Legion, Tom Foolery’s, Sweet Karoline’s Floral Shop, among others.

“Lasso Your Imagination isn’t just a fundraiser; it’s an opportunity for the community to unite for a significant cause. It’s a night to have fun while making a meaningful impact,” Boehning added.

Currently, the partnership between Tomorrow’s Promise and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has already had a profound effect, providing free books to over 875 children monthly under the age of five in Walker County.  To date over 36,000 books have been mailed.

Boehning emphasized the importance of the program: “90% of brain growth happens in the first five years of life.  Only one in every 300 economically disadvantaged children have a children’s book in their home.  In Huntsville 60.25 of our children are economically disadvantaged.  This means that we have many children entering kindergarten who never seen a book before next to children who are already reading.  On average there is an 18 month achievement gap for children entering kindergarten.  Help us change these facts!

In an age where screens are everywhere, books are fundamental in the developmental stages of children. Literacy is the cornerstone of education, and this program is ensuring that every child in Walker County has the chance to grow up with books, regardless of their family’s financial situation.”

Tickets for the event are available for purchase at $50 for adults. Tables for 8 are available for $500.00.  This is a great way to have an employee appreciation or family get together without the hassle of planning a party.  Those interested can also buy a “Chop Out Illiteracy” T-shirt for $20, another initiative aimed at improving literacy rates in the county.

For businesses and individuals interested in contributing to this worthy cause, sponsorship opportunities are still available. Sponsoring the event offers a unique chance to showcase your support for literacy and early childhood development in Walker County.
