Support for Local Students Pursuing Higher Education

Huntsville, TX – The Walker County Area Go Texan committee is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2024 academic year. This scholarship program aims to support Walker County residents pursuing higher education. Eligible students are encouraged to apply before the April 8, 2024 deadline.

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must have lived in Walker County for at least the last two years and be enrolled in an accredited high school, home school, or other recognized educational institution. A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required. Furthermore, candidates must be planning to attend or have already been accepted into an accredited college, university, vocational, or technical school.

In addition to academic achievements, the Walker County Area Go Texan scholarship emphasizes community involvement. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 volunteer hours over the past four years with local organizations. The committee especially values participation in their own events, such as the annual Crawfish Boil and Steak Dinner, among others.

This scholarship initiative is unique in that it does not require applicants to be involved with FFA, 4-H, or the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR). The primary goal is to foster education and community engagement among the youth of Walker County.

Interested students should contact the Walker County Area Go Texan Ambassador or committee members for more information about the scholarship, volunteer opportunities, or for any clarification needed regarding the application process. Inquiries can be sent to wcagt.ambassador@gmail.com.
