Local officials, business leaders, and community members engaged with state lawmakers and officials.
On February 26, 2025, more than 40 local officials, business leaders, and community members from Walker County traveled to the Texas State Capitol for Walker County Day at the Capitol. The event, organized by the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce, provided an opportunity for participants to tour the state capitol and engage with state lawmakers and officials on issues important to the community.
The delegation met with Sen. Charles Schwertner and Rep. Trey Wharton, discussing key initiatives affecting Walker County. In addition to legislative meetings, speakers from the Governor’s Office, the Texas Education Agency (TEA), and the Texas Medical Association provided updates on policies related to education, healthcare, and economic development.
Attendees also took part in a guided tour of the Capitol, gaining a deeper understanding of the state’s legislative process. The event saw participation from several notable figures, including Huntsville Mayor Russell Humphrey, New Waverly Mayor Nathaniel James, Riverside Mayor Pro Tem Tony Kuehl, along with multiple city council members and other community leaders. Jason Brandolini, the newly appointed President and CEO of the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce, was also in attendance.
Participants traveled by bus from Huntsville to Austin for the event. A special acknowledgment was given to Entergy, the event’s gift sponsor, for providing Texas State Capitol ornaments to attendees.
Organizers described the event as successful, emphasizing the importance of direct engagement with state officials.
