More Updates from Walker County OEM...

1.25.2026 2pm Update on Winter Storm Fern:

City streets are looking good. There may be some small patches of ice on the edge of some streets.

IH45 NB has ice on inside lane and TxDOT is working on clearing it.

Ice is reported on FM1696 and the SH19 exit from IH45 has ice covering the ramp.

For the most part, except for a few patches here and there, the roads are in good shape however, if there is any residual water on the roads, it will freeze again tonight.

We are still under an extreme cold warning and it does not appear that we will be above freezing until Tuesday about noon. Tonight temperatures are expected to drop down to 20 degrees by 6pm and possibly 18 degrees at midnight and our high tomorrow is around noon at 27 degrees.

The electrical grid is looking good. Currently in Walker County, we have 560 meters out with Entergy. All other companies are reporting zero outages.

The Walker County Emergency Operations Center will be minimally staffed after 7pm tonight but we will remotely monitor and post anything of significance.
