The Sam Houston Bearkats Men’s Basketball team, with a 20-6 record and 10-4 in Western Athletic Conference play, maintained their impressive road record of 9-5 by defeating Tarleton 64-59 at Wisdom Gym. Donte Powers and Cameron Huefner led the charge, combining for 20 points and sinking nine 3-pointers. Other contributors included Qua Grant with 10 points and Tristan Ikpe, who scored six points and grabbed seven rebounds.

During the second half, Sam Houston had a nine-point lead, but Tarleton managed to tie the game at 46 at the 10:16 mark. However, the Bearkats responded with clutch plays, including a jumper by Powers and a layup by Javion May off a turnover, which pushed them back into a four-point lead. Powers then hit a 3-pointer with 2:29 left in the game to put Sam Houston up 62-51. Although the Texans attempted to stage a comeback with an 8-0 run, Powers’ two free throws with six seconds left sealed the victory for the Bearkats.

Sam Houston will now host California Baptist at Johnson Coliseum on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
