Beach towel thank-you gift and free A1C screening for donors.
HUNTSVILLE, Texas – First Baptist Church will host a mobile blood drive on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 1 PM to 7 PM. Donors should check in at the FBC Family Life Center before proceeding to the donor coach stationed in the parking lot at 1229 Avenue J.
Blood Drive Sponsor. Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center [GCRBC] is one of the largest community blood centers in the United States, serving 170 hospitals and healthcare facilities in a 26-county area. The blood center relies on about 1,000 donations every day of the year to meet the demand for the blood supply.
Blood is Essential. Blood comprises three components, each playing a crucial role in saving lives. Red blood cells are instrumental in treating patients undergoing cancer treatments, surgeries, and traumatic injuries. Plasma is required to replenish fluids in burn victims and trauma patients. Platelets are vital to cancer patients and those undergoing bone marrow transplants.
Why Donate? Giving on an ongoing basis helps ensure blood components are always available for patients served by GCRBC. A donor can save as many as three lives in about one hour by giving one pint of blood. Nearly 42,000 blood components are used by patients every day. Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood transfusion, and 4.2 million Americans will need a blood transfusion each year. 62% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, but of these, only about 3% will actually donate.
Donation Criteria. Visit www.giveblood.org to learn more about general health considerations, as well as topics relating to medication, vaccination, medical history, and travel outside the United States. To check eligibility, contact a GCRBC Donor Advocate at donoradvocacy@giveblood.org or call 713.791.6608, from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday-Friday.
There is no donor age cap. The minimum age to donate is 16, provided the weight requirement is met, and requires the completion of an Underage Donor Informed Consent.
