Huntsville High Shifts Games to SHSU’s Bowers Stadium Amid Delays

HUNTSVILLE – The much-anticipated opening of the new Huntsville ISD Stadium faces delays due to widely publicized construction industry supply chain disruptions and site-specific complications requiring intricate civil engineering.

The district and its contractors prioritize the integrity and longevity of the stadium, opting to avoid rushing the completion. As a result of this decision, Huntsville High School’s home football games, spanning from freshmen to varsity, originally slated at Huntsville ISD Stadium, will temporarily move to Elliott T. Bowers Stadium on the Sam Houston State University (SHSU) campus. This arrangement will also accommodate Mance Park Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade home games starting this September.

A lasting partnership between the school district and SHSU has facilitated this interim solution. The revised target completion window for the Huntsville ISD Stadium is between September 15th and 30th, with aspirations to host at least four weeks of the 2023 regular football season at the new facility.

For fans who have already procured season tickets, these will remain valid at Bowers Stadium. However, due to differences in seating layouts between the two stadiums, specific seat assignments won’t be guaranteed. Instead, season ticket holders can select chair back seats on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For additional ticketing information, individuals are directed to the official website, hornetnation.org.

The district expresses gratitude for the community’s patience and emphasizes their commitment to delivering a top-tier stadium for generations of enjoyment.
