NEW ORLEANS – The Sam Houston Bearkats officially learned their postseason destination last Friday, accepting an invitation to participate in the 2024 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.
The Kats will take on Georgia Southern at the Caesars Superdome in the program’s first-ever bowl appearance at the FBS level. The game is set for a 6:00 p.m. CST kickoff on Thursday, December 19, and will be aired on ESPN2.
For the best seats in the SHSU ticket allotment, requests for tickets are immediately open and can be made through Monday, December 9 at 5:00 p.m. The remaining seats in the SHSU allotment will be released for sale on Tuesday, December 10, at 9:00 a.m.
All tickets for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl are digital,l with prices at $80 or $60 plus processing fees.
Sam Houston finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, narrowly missing a berth in the Conference USA Championship Game. Meanwhile, Georgia Southern will represent the Sun Belt Conference after closing its regular season with an 8-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark within the SBC. The Eagles will be making their second appearance in the New Orleans Bowl and first since a 38-3 win over Louisiana Tech in 2020.
Both programs are former FCS/1-AA powerhouses with a combined seven national titles at that level between them. Despite each annually going deep in the playoffs in the FCS, the 2024 New Orleans Bowl meeting will be the first time the programs have locked horns on the gridiron.
