Sam Houston Football Relocates to Huntsville ISD Hornet Stadium for Preseason Practices

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston football team will open its fall camp the evening of Wednesday, July 31, as it begins preparations for the upcoming 2024 season.

Due to delays in the field replacement of Bowers Stadium caused by an abundance of rain and inclement weather in recent months, the Bearkats will relocate the opening of the fall practice schedule to Huntsville ISD Hornet Stadium.

All practices and scrimmages will be closed to the public.

The team will utilize the HISD complex, which opened in Fall 2023, as its primary location of practice until completion of field turf installation at Bowers Stadium. The Kats will also utilize the surface at Holleman Field for specified sessions.

Sam Houston will take part in 14 practice sessions, including a pair of full team scrimmages which are tentatively scheduled for August 7 and August 14. Preseason camp officially concludes on August 17, two weeks prior to the Kats’ 2024 opener on August 31 at Rice.

The Kats are entering their second season as a member of Conference USA and having now completed a two-year transition period will be eligible for bowl qualification in 2024.

Sam Houston won three of its final four games to close 2023 and will have road games at Rice and UCF before hosting Hawaii on September 14 and NM State on September 21 in the opener of CUSA play.

Season and single-game tickets are currently on sale for 2024 Bearkat Football and can be purchased by going to GoBearkats.com/tickets or by calling the Bearkat Ticket Office at 936-294-1729.
