Huntsville, TX – More than 500 students are expected to converge at the George J. Beto Criminal Justice Center’s Killinger Auditorium at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) on February 29, 2024, for a momentous National Collegiate Day of Prayer event. This event, led by the students for the students, aims to unite SHSU’s community in faith and prayer, emphasizing unity and spiritual revival.
Chris Smith, Director of Baptist Student Ministries, shared his enthusiasm for the event, highlighting its importance for the campus community. “This is an opportunity for us to come together, to unite and earnestly seek God’s presence and transformation in our lives,” Smith stated. The evening will begin at 6:00 PM, offering food and fellowship, followed by a structured order of service that includes worship, testimonies inspired by the Asbury College revival last year, and collective prayer sessions.
The event is a collaborative effort among various campus ministries, including the Baptist Student Ministries, Chi Alpha, Fellowship of Huntsville Church’s Ignite, and potentially others like Campus Outreach and UHBC Truth. Smith emphasized the goal of fostering unity among these groups, stating, “One of the challenges at Sam Houston is unity within the ministries. This event is a step toward gathering together as the church to really cry out to Him and ask Him to move and change lives.”
Although the physical space is prioritized for students due to capacity constraints, the broader community is invited to join virtually. A live stream will be available for those unable to attend in person, ensuring that the event’s impact reaches beyond the university’s campus.
The National Collegiate Day of Prayer is an annual event organized by OneCry, a movement dedicated to sparking spiritual revival across college campuses in America. The initiative gains inspiration from the notable revival that occurred at Asbury University last year, setting a precedent for transformative spiritual gatherings in educational settings.
For those interested in participating or witnessing the event at Sam Houston State University, the live stream can be accessed at https://tinyurl.com/shsuprayer, allowing individuals from around the globe to partake in this unifying moment of prayer and worship.
Chris Smith expressed a heartfelt desire for the event’s outcome, “We’re asking the Lord to move in powerful ways, to change lives, and to foster a deeper unity among us. It’s about coming together, seeking God, and watching Him work among us.”
This event not only signifies a significant moment of faith-based unity at SHSU but also reflects a broader movement of spiritual revival and community building within collegiate environments across the nation.
