SHSU Prepares for Memorable Graduation Ceremonies in December 2023

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Sam Houston State University has officially announced its Fall 2023 Commencement Schedule, marking a significant milestone for its graduating students. The ceremonies are set to take place on December 8th and 9th at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum, according to the university’s recent release.

Schedule and College Participation

The commencement ceremonies will commence at 9:30 AM on Friday, December 8th, with graduates from the College of Business Administration and the College of Education (Masters and Doctoral degrees) being the first to walk the stage. Later that day, at 2:00 PM, the College of Arts and Media, College of Education (Undergraduates), and the College of Health Sciences will have their ceremony.

On Saturday, December 9th, the College of Criminal Justice and the College of Science and Engineering Technology (Department of Agriculture Sciences and Engineering Technology only) will hold their ceremony at 9:30 AM. The day will conclude with the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the remaining departments of the College of Science and Engineering Technology at 2:00 PM.

Commencement Spotlights

In the lead-up to these ceremonies, SHSU has spotlighted several outstanding graduates, including Star Brown, who overcame significant challenges to reach this point, and Danielle Laird, who juggled numerous responsibilities alongside her studies. Also featured is Mateo Seghezzo, a dedicated music student who moved to the States to pursue his passion for jazz.

Important Commencement Information

To ensure a smooth and respectful ceremony, SHSU has highlighted several key policies. A clear bag policy will be enforced at the Johnson Coliseum, and items such as umbrellas, outside food and drinks, airhorns, and large bags are prohibited. The university emphasizes the importance of maintaining decorum during the event, expecting students and guests to stay seated until the conclusion of the ceremony and adhere to university alcohol policies.

For those unable to attend in person, the university will offer live streams of each commencement ceremony. Additionally, provisions for ADA seating and accommodations are available upon request, ensuring accessibility for all guests.
