Part of a transformative multi-million-dollar initiative aimed at developing the university’s Gibbs Ranch, the new arena stands as a testament to SHSU’s commitment to academic excellence and student success. Alongside the arena, this ambitious project encompasses a dedicated rodeo team stall barn, an innovative horticulture and learning center, advanced laboratories, collaborative workspaces and state-of-the-art greenhouses.

For more than a decade, the SHSU Rodeo team has hosted their rodeo events in Conroe, due to the absence of a suitable venue in Huntsville. Now, with their very own home, Rodeo Coach Bubba Miller believes it will foster the team’s continued growth and success.

“Thanks to incredibly generous support from alumni and friends, we are ushering in a new era of rodeo excellence at Sam Houston State,” Miller said. “This is a game-changer for our students and fans alike. Our new home will undoubtedly elevate the SHSU rodeo experience.”

Miller guarantees two electrifying nights of collegiate competition. Renowned rodeo announcer Boyd Polhamus will take the helm, ensuring audiences are not only well-informed but also thoroughly captivated. With a remarkable track record that includes numerous appearances as the announcer at the National Finals Rodeo and RodeoHouston, Polhamus has presided over some of the most monumental rodeo events worldwide.

The rodeo team is also thrilled to announce the inclusion of a sensational rodeo specialty act featuring the remarkable trick rider, Jessica Blair Fowlkes, as part of the entertainment lineup.

“This inaugural event is going to be special, and we can’t wait to share that excitement with the community. We’re eager to welcome back familiar faces and extend a warm invitation to new fans,” Miller said. “Secure your seats, be part of history and experience the thrill of rodeo excellence in Huntsville.”

The SHSU rodeo area is located at 1143 SH 75 N. Huntsville, TX 77320. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the gate both evenings (Nov. 10 & 11). Free admission for children 12 and under.
