TEDxSHSU 2024 Set to Ignite Minds and Ideas

Annual Event Returns October 9 with Theme ‘Ignite’

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The third annual TEDxSHSU event will take place on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Sam Houston State University’s Lowman Student Center, Orange Ballroom. This year’s theme, “Ignite,” promises to spark dynamic discussions and new perspectives as live speakers and pre-recorded TED talks engage the university and Huntsville communities.

TEDx events are designed to foster dialogue on important ideas and innovations, with each event organized locally under a TED license. Attendees will hear from a variety of speakers covering topics from self-compassion to technology, sustainability, and trauma healing.

Attendees can choose to attend one, two, or all three sessions, which are scheduled throughout the day. The speaker lineup includes:

Session 1: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

  • Uzma Iqbal: Self-Compassion is Not Selfish
  • Hiranya K. Nath: Rekindling Empathy: The Good Neighbor Initiative
  • Pat Lindsay “Pinky” C. Catalla-Buscaino: Who Is Your Kuwento Keeper?

  • Shelly Clevenger: The Healing Power of Toys: How Toys Help People Cope with Trauma

Session 2: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Loganne Mason: Sustainability and Agriculture: Making the Choice
  • J. Bart Stykes: Seeing Invisible Student Parents
  • Bradford Harris: Redesigning the Tech Table: Amplifying Black Voices in Technology, Gaming, and Esports
  • Chinasa Elue: Grief-Conscious Communication: Redefining How We Navigate Everyday Grief

Session 3: 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
