Walker County’s Real Estate Market: Growth Trends and Opportunities
I’m often asked, “How is the real estate market doing?” Over the past three months, we’ve seen an increase in closings, both residential and commercial—though residential has been stronger. Typically, real estate activity slows down during an election year, and I believe this has been true across the nation. However, Texas is often an exception, especially in the greater North Houston area. In Walker County, we’re experiencing a steady increase in closings, which is great for the community.
This growth is due to a few factors. First, prices have stabilized, and mortgage rates have remained steady over the past year, averaging around 6% to 7%. More buyers are becoming comfortable with these rates. Additionally, we’re seeing an increase in migration further north from Montgomery County.
So, why Walker County? There are many reasons. Property taxes here are lower, and with a smaller population, things like auto insurance are often less expensive. Despite growth, the area still maintains a hometown feel, with a strong community atmosphere where neighbors know and help each other.
What does the future hold for Huntsville real estate? I’m optimistic. We’re seeing new neighborhoods and developments coming to the area. The new I-14 highway is on its way, and Sam Houston State University is projecting enrollment growth to 30,000 by 2030. I believe this is a great time to invest in Huntsville real estate, whether it’s in your personal residency, rental units or commercial properties. Huntsville has a lot to offer.
