Nominate outstanding Hornet alumni, former employees, or trustees who have made significant lifetime achievements.

HUNTSVILLE, TX – The Huntsville Independent School District is seeking nominations for the 2024 Inductees for the Huntsville ISD Hall of Champions.  In keeping with Huntsville ISD’s commitment to Building Champions, the purpose of the Hall of Champions is to acknowledge the outstanding lifetime achievements of former Huntsville Hornets in a variety of categories. The honor reflects personal and professional accomplishments, as well as larger contributions to our society at a local, state, national, or international level.  Honorees are role models and represent Champions in life – the “Best of the Best” among Hornet Alumni, former HISD employees and former HISD trustees.

“We have been asked if the Hall of Champions is just intended for recognizing former Hornets for their athletic accomplishments.  The answer to that is “no!”  The intent is to honor former students, employees and trustees in a variety of areas for all kinds of outstanding accomplishments which of course could include athletic feats,” shared Shannon Hollis, HISD Director of Communications.

Huntsville ISD presented the Inaugural Inductees of the Hall of Champions for 2023 on Friday, October 27, 2023, during a home football game.  Inaugural inductees Jane Monday, Trevor Fountain, Joreen Kelly Waddell and Eathan O’Bryant (photo attached) were celebrated during a pregame reception followed by a plaque presentation down on the field between the first and second quarters.  It was such a special opportunity to honor four of the very “Best of the Best” among former Hornets.  The community is invited to view photos and biographies of the 2023 inductees by visiting the district website.

The Hornet community is being called upon to submit nominations for the next class of inductees.  Nominees must be a graduate of Huntsville High School at least 15 years ago; OR a former HISD employee or trustee whose contributions left a lasting impact on the community; AND they accomplished outstanding lifetime achievements in accordance with the purpose stated above.

In addition to the Hall of Champions completed NOMINATION FORM, each submission should include: 1) A Letter of nomination indicating why the nominee should be in the Hall of Champions; 2) The nominee’s current resume and/or biographical narrative to help explain the nominee’s accomplishments and contributions; and 3) Two or more additional letters of reference with contact information. Please address all the qualifications listed at the top of the “NOMINATION INSTRUCTIONS” in your letter of nomination and include as much relevant information as possible to help the selection committee make an informed decision. Please help “paint a picture” of why this person deserves to be in the Hall of Champions. All candidate qualifications, nomination criteria and form can be found on the district website at https://www.huntsville-isd.org/hoc. Hall of Champions nominations will be accepted through Friday, August 16, 2024, to be considered this year.

Nominees selected for induction into this year’s Hall of Champions will be notified and invited to a ceremony in conjunction with the Huntsville High School Homecoming football game scheduled for October 18, 2024. For Hall of Champions questions, please contact Hollis at the HISD Hawkins Administration Building at 936-435-6300 or email shollis@huntsville-isd.org.
