Obituary For Lola Irene Darnell

Lola Irene Oholendt Darnell, 99 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 12, 2023.

Lola was born on February 21, 1924, to Mayme and Walter Ernest Oholendt in North Little Rock, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Francis and Gene Oholendt, and her husband, Oliver Allen Westbrook, Jr. who was killed during WWII. Her husband of 63 years, Glenn Darnell, and son Dale Gordon Darnell also preceded her in death.

Lola graduated from North Little Rock High School and attended the University of Texas. She was active in Christian ministries as a youth and continued this service throughout her life. She was a member of University Heights Baptist Church and was a charter member of Covenant Fellowship in Huntsville, Texas. She served as a Red Cross volunteer aide during WWII. She contributed to her community by volunteering at hospitals where she lived and served many years at Huntsville Memorial Hospital and Auxiliary. In later years, she and Glenn volunteered with prison ministries in Huntsville providing support to families meeting their released loved ones. Lola served as First Trustee of Elkins Lake Board of Governors from 1979-1980. Feeling blessed and thankful to the Lord for giving her Glenn and her four sons, she dedicated herself to helping and encouraging their life choices and activities. After her sons started their careers, she earned her real estate license and was active in the field in Huntsville for over 12 years, five of them as co-owner of Elkins Lake Real Estate Company.

Lola is survived by her sons and their wives, Richard Glenn (Kathleen), Don Ross (Carol), Dave Ernest, and daughter-in-law Julia Darnell Dean; granddaughter Michelle Darnell Tanchek (Jeffrey, Austin), grandsons and their families Chad Glenn, Joel Timothy (Celina, Owen Louis, Flora Rebecca), Michael Hodge (Samantha, Beckett Hodge, Silas Stone), Daniel Glenn (Ava, Ezekiel Baird), Andrew Louis (Ashley, Vera Louise, Maeve Lola Jayne), Matthew Ross (Norma, Levi Mateo, Samuel Ross), Conner William (Courtney, Noah William), Garrett Don. She has numerous nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Visitation is on Thursday April 27, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at University Heights Baptist Church, 2400 Sycamore, Huntsville, Texas. The service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Richard Rogers and Reverend David Valentine officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. After the service, lunch will be provided in the church fellowship hall and the burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery, 903 Martin Luther King Drive, Huntsville, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 119 Memorial Drive, Huntsville, TX 77340; University Heights Baptist Church, 2400 Sycamore, Huntsville, TX 77340; or Covenant Fellowship, 606 FM 1791 North, Huntsville, TX 77340.
