Obituary
Wilburn Dale Dickerson, 85, passed away on May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Wilburn was born on January 15, 1941, in Grand Saline, Texas to J.B. Dickerson and Blanche Ledbetter Dickerson. Growing up, Wilburn was a gifted athlete who excelled in many sports. He played baseball, basketball, football, and tennis, and also participated in Golden Gloves boxing. He graduated from Grand Saline High School before moving to Dallas, Texas, where he met the love of his life and forever partner, Geraldine David. Wilburn and Geraldine were married on October 26, 1963 and began building a life centered around faith, family, and hard work. Together, they opened a dry-cleaning business in Frisco, Texas. They welcomed two sons, Barry and Craig, and in 1972 moved to Huntsville, Texas, where Wilburn opened a Mobil service station. Over the years, he went on to open and operate several convenience stores throughout the area. Through his businesses, Wilburn became much more than an owner—he was a mentor and role model to many young men, offering guidance, encouragement, and opportunities that helped shape their futures. Wilburn was a devoted father who loved supporting his sons in everything they pursued. He spent many years coaching Little League baseball and treasured the opportunity to be involved in his sons' lives and activities, including Hornet football. And more recently cheering on his Grandsons as they played for Westlake High School and watched them progress to state championships. He was also a proud supporter of the 4-H and FFA programs, spending countless hours helping his sons raise and show steers. Some of their favorite memories came from watching their hard work pay off in the show ring, where they earned numerous championships and awards. Whether on the baseball field or at livestock shows, Wilburn was always their biggest supporter and greatest encourager. After a successful career, Wilburn and Geraldine retired when he was 62 years old. They held partnerships in several nursing homes and enjoyed traveling overseas, especially on cruises. Retirement allowed them to spend the next twenty years exploring the United States with close friends in their RV. One of Wilburn’s favorite places was Palm Springs, California, where they spent many winters golfing, making lifelong memories, and enjoying the friendships they built there over the years. Wilburn had a passion for antique automobiles and loved buying, trading, and talking about classic cars. He was also a dedicated sports enthusiast and a proud supporter of Sam Houston State University athletics. As a season ticket holder for more than fifty years, he faithfully attended and supported Bearkat sporting events, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on the teams he loved. Another cause near and dear to their hearts was the VPU (Veteran & Patriots United), where they provided housing, their time and resources for disabled veterans. His faith was the foundation of his life. Wilburn was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Huntsville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and alongside Geraldine, volunteered countless hours supporting church activities, fundraising efforts, and the parish community they loved so dearly. Wilburn was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Dickerson and his mother, Blanche, and brother, Richard Dickerson.
