In memoriam
William "Bill" Driscoll III
October 15, 1949
Obituary
William Anthony Driscoll, III, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, surrounded by his family. "Bill" was born in Huntsville, Texas, on October 15, 1949, where he was raised. He attended Huntsville High School, where he enjoyed singing in the choir as well as playing football and baseball. After high school, he attended the New Mexico Military Institute for two years, where he was affectionately known as "Bear." He then attended and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and where he made lifelong friends.
Bill's love of the Texas Longhorns was passed on to many members of his family. Bill was an avid reader and a World War II history buff. He combed the internet for articles or any site that made mention of his father's squadron and his plane, "We, The People." He passed his love of country on to his children and grandchildren. The placing of flags on the graves of the fallen on Memorial Day became a tradition for his family.
In 2013, his precious wife Laura was hospitalized following a surgical procedure, where she remained for eight months. During that time, Bill's devotion was evident, as he never left her side. He passionately advocated for her and ensured she received the best possible care. We are thankful to Bill for his steadfast love and care for Laura during that difficult time. Bill loved spending time with his family.
He had an incredibly close relationship with his daughter, Lesley, and his son, Bennett Lane. They were his top priority. And then, when his grandchildren were born, he discovered the most cherished role of his life. Many joyful days were spent with them in the backyard of their home in the swimming pool. He was there for them at all of their events, whether it be soccer, baseball, band, choir, or dance.
He would not miss a minute. They adored him. Bill is survived by his dear wife, Laura Cook Driscoll; his children, Lesley Meinzer and her husband Greg; their children, Jase, Charlotte, and Emma; son, Bennett Lane Driscoll and his wife Heather; their son Finn and Baby Driscoll on the way; his sister, Patricia Driscoll Johnson and her husband Sam Johnson; his brother, James "Jimbo" Driscoll and his wife Jill; his brother-in-law Richard Cook and his wife Cathy.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Anthony Driscoll, Jr.; his mother, Peggy Driscoll Carter; his beloved second mother, Cora Randall; his brother, Thomas Stuart Driscoll; and his sister, Elizabeth Ann Driscoll. Bill's sister Trisha put it best: "We will miss his kindness, his love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was known not only as "Bebo" to friends, but he was also called that by Jase, Charlotte, Emma, Finn, and another on the way.
They were his everything. May he rest in peace." Visitation starts at 12:00 PM and services will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest following services at Adickes Addition of Oakwood Cemetery. A reception will be held after the burial at 601 Rolling Hills Dr. (Elkins Lake), Huntsville, TX 77340. Memorial condolences to the family may be made at www.shmfh.com.
