LEAP Center’s Citizenship Course Empowers Immigrants in Huntsville
Immigrants seeking U.S. citizenship now have a vital resource at the Katy and E Don Walker Education Center. The LEAP Center, under the direction of Professor Mike Yawn, has teamed up with the Huntsville Public Library to offer a Citizenship Course designed to guide individuals through the naturalization process.
The LEAP Center, led by Professor Mike Yawn, spearheads this initiative, providing essential education and resources for immigrants aiming to become citizens. With classes scheduled every Tuesday throughout April from 6:00-8:30 pm, the program unfolds at the Katy and E Don Walker Education Center (1402 19th Street), providing a conducive environment for learning and collaboration. The course is free to attend but registration is required.
The curriculum of the Citizenship Course covers a comprehensive range of topics crucial for success in the naturalization test. From American history to government structures and civic responsibilities, participants engage in lectures, discussions, and practice tests to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the examination.
Integral to the success of the program are the student volunteers, many of whom are bilingual. These dedicated volunteers, in collaboration with the Huntsville Public Library, play a vital role in providing personalized assistance and guidance to aspiring citizens, ensuring they receive the support they need to thrive in the course.
The collaboration between the LEAP Center and the Huntsville Public Library underscores a shared commitment to fostering inclusivity and empowerment within the immigrant community. Together, they provide a supportive and enriching environment where individuals can come together, learn, and build connections as they pursue their American dream.
Through education, collaboration, and community engagement, the Citizenship Course stands as a beacon of opportunity and empowerment for all who seek to become citizens of the United States.
For those interested in joining the Citizenship Course, registration is open, and all are encouraged to take the first step towards realizing their American dream.
