Transforming Spaces, Uplifting Hearts: A New Initiative for CPS Children
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Huntsville Leadership Institute Class #42, affiliated with the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce, has announced its second class project, named Bless CPS, aimed at benefiting children under the care of the local Child Protective Services (CPS). In a heartfelt initiative, the class plans to update the visitation rooms at the Walker County CPS office, creating a more welcoming and comforting environment for children to meet with their parents under supervision.
Class representative Liz Speer spoke about the motivation behind the project, emphasizing the group’s commitment to addressing local needs. “We were looking at the needs of the community and what population really could use some help and assistance, and we really felt called to help the children in foster care,” Speer said.
The initiative involves partnering with Adler Family Toys and leveraging Amazon for donations. “We can accept monetary donations at the chamber, or donations through Amazon. Our wish list with Adler Toys is going to help us restock the toys at the CPS office” Speer explained. The effort is not just about providing toys but also about transforming the spaces into areas where children can feel safe and valued during what can often be stressful visits.
The leadership class aims to make the rooms more comfortable, ensuring that the children look forward to their visits. “We really wanted to make it homey and inviting and something that they would really look forward to seeing,” Speer added.
The community can support this noble cause by purchasing toys or games from the wish list available at Adler Family Toys, located off the square on Sam Houston Ave, or by making a monetary donation to the Walker County Chamber of Commerce for the Class #42 project. The deadline for donations is April 20, with the renovation of the room scheduled for completion by April 26.
This project by the Huntsville Leadership Institute Class #42 highlights the community’s effort to provide a nurturing and supportive environment for children in challenging circumstances, reinforcing the importance of compassion and action in making a difference in the lives of young ones.
