Huntsville High Senior Rosalie G. Jones Recognized as National Merit Commended Student
HUNTSVILLE – Huntsville High School’s senior Rosalie G. Jones has been honored as a Commended Student in the prestigious 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to an announcement by the school’s Principal, Paul M. Trevino.
Jones is among the approximately 34,000 students across the United States who have been recognized for their exceptional academic potential. These students are celebrated for placing among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.5 million participants in the 2024 competition. This distinction comes after their participation in the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
A Letter of Commendation from Huntsville High School and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which administers the program, will be presented to Jones by Principal Trevino. This accolade is a testament to Jones’ hard work and dedication to her studies.
In a statement, a spokesperson for NMSC emphasized the significance of this recognition. “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success. These students represent a valuable national resource. Recognizing their achievements, as well as the pivotal role their schools play in their academic development, is essential for the progress of educational excellence in our nation,” they remarked.
The spokesperson further added, “We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
Jones’ achievement places her in a distinguished group of students, highlighting her exceptional academic abilities and potential for future accomplishments. This recognition also underscores the vital role of educational institutions like Huntsville High School in nurturing and developing the talents of young scholars.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, now in its 70th year, is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, a test that serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.5 million entrants each year, and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
